Our Story

Discover woodworking and learn woodcraft here. We started Wood-N-Tool because we recognized an unmet need. Woodworking and Woodcraft are fading as lost arts. Most public schools have stopped teaching woodshop. Skilled craftsmen are in demand. Many people, young and old, men and women, desire to express their creativity through this craft. Our goal is to teach woodworking skills and help you start your own woodcraft business.

The Wood-N-Tool blog site is part of our woodcraft business called ASH Woodshops. We make and sell many types of wood products. Alan Huey, the founder of ASH Woodshops, has cherished woodworking his whole life. He is the creator of all the items sold through ASH Woodshops. Our projects encompass furniture, wall art, wood turnings, handmade writing instruments like various pens, as well as kitchen items such as cutting boards, butcher blocks, salt and pepper mills, wooden wine ‘glasses,’ and mugs.

A Hobby now a woodcraft business

Alan started out just trying to learn and make things himself. It all started at the age of 15 when decided to build a family couch. Money was always tight, and this prompted trying to “make” instead of purchasing anything that his young family needed for furniture.

After College, a career in Agricultural Production, Produce, and Food Processing, limited time available for woodworking. But the passion was always there. Spending any spare time learning, perfecting, trial and error, the skills were honed to the point where people actually commented on the quality and beauty of what Alan was making.

Then the unthinkable happened. The economic downturn, loss of job, loss of virtually everything. Alan turned to the skills that he had honed over the years to create a business from his hobby. Woodworking became the key to making ends meet. The entrepreneur spirit was high, and the woodworking developed into a business that continues to this day.

Woodworking Technique-Safety-Purpose

Regardless of your present skill level, you will find helpful content here. At Wood-N-Tool, we will present a curated source of information that you will find helpful. Some of the information will come from other experts that we find of value to our own work. There is so much great content already out on the internet that we do not need to recreate similar content ourselves.

We will always give credit to the person that created it. Our value will come from cutting down your search time for information about a particular technique, wood application, and safety tips.

Safety will always come first in our workshop, and it should in yours too. Thank you for visiting here and we hope that you find great information that will help your journey to becoming a woodworking craft expert.

“Woodworking is fun and very rewarding. It is a creative outlet that gives joy to the maker and to the recipient of the objects made.”
